Dear Juno, or any other teenage parent in the same situation,
I watched your movie and feel that what you did by carrying the baby to term and giving it up for adoption was a very respectable action. However, I would like to tell you how I feel about what you did with Bleaker. You should not have had unprotected sex with someone you weren’t even dating! You shouldn’t have unprotected sex as a teenager in general either. If you have sex, at least have the respect for yourself and your partner to use protection. I know that you fell in love with Bleaker, but wouldn’t it have been better to have sex after you fell in love with him rather than because you were bored?
If you had protected sex the chances of you getting pregnant would have been much less and you probably might not have had to of gone through all the things you went through during your pregnancy…. But you did, so you were left with a baby inside you. Would it not have been easier to get an abortion though? I mean, now days women have the right to choose thanks to Roe v. Wade and a right to privacy about such an action according to the 14th amendment. If you had received an abortion, you wouldn’t’ve had to go through being insulted and laughed at because you had a baby inside you. You also would not have had to gone through the pain of delivering the baby and the difficulty of finding a good family to adopt it. I understand that such a decision is difficult (I’ll never know how difficult) but wouldn’t it be more appealing to have no one ever know that you got pregnant in the first place?
I hope you consider what I’ve said and know that I do respect your decision; but, I would like to know why you did not simply get the abortion.
Sincerely,
Tomas Snyder
